Hi, I’m Nolan Vitzthum.

My Approach

I believe that meaningful supervision begins with relationship. The quality of the supervisory relationship creates the foundation for growth, reflection, and professional confidence. My approach is rooted in authenticity, curiosity, and respect, with the goal of creating a space where clinicians feel both supported and appropriately challenged as they develop their professional identity.

My supervisory philosophy is influenced by the Integrated Developmental Model (IDM), which recognizes that clinicians progress through different stages of professional development. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor supervision to each supervisee's current level of experience, confidence, autonomy, and clinical skill. As your needs evolve, my supervisory style evolves with you—providing greater structure and guidance when needed while gradually fostering increased independence, critical thinking, and self-reflection.

Equally important to me is the concept of ethos—the character and values that shape how we practice as therapists. While developing clinical competence is essential, I believe becoming an effective therapist also requires cultivating integrity, humility, presence, and ethical decision-making. Supervision is not simply about learning techniques; it is about becoming the kind of clinician who can form meaningful therapeutic relationships while remaining grounded in professional ethics and genuine human connection.

I strive to create a supervisory environment where questions are welcomed, mistakes become opportunities for learning, and honest dialogue is encouraged. Together, we explore clinical interventions, case conceptualization, countertransference, cultural humility, ethical dilemmas, and the ongoing development of your therapeutic identity. My goal is to help you build not only competence but also confidence, resilience, and the capacity for lifelong professional growth.

Whether you are beginning your clinical journey or refining your expertise, I view supervision as a collaborative partnership that honors your strengths while encouraging thoughtful reflection and continued development. I am committed to helping you become a clinician who practices with skill, authenticity, and compassion—one whose professional ethos positively impacts every client you serve.
